Holt Romania Foundation is a non-governmental organization founded by Holt International Children’s Services, having an experience of more than 14 years in child and family protection in Romania. The Romanian organization took over not only the specialized staff and successful programs, but also the same principle that guided us all these years of continuous work in the best interest of children in Romania: “Every child deserves a home of his own.”, which belongs to Harry Holt, the organization’s founder.

 The mission of Holt organization is to try to offer every child the chance to have his own family. We achieve this mission by developing and implementing social services and programs to contribute to:

• Maintaining children in their birth families whenever this is possible and safe, avoiding abuse/neglect/institutionalization/abandonment;
• Reintegrating institutionalized children in their birth families whenever this is in the child’s best interest;
• Placing eligible children for adoption in Romanian adoptive families.

 The objectives of Holt organization:

• Support children and their families to reduce the risk factors of abuse/neglect/institutionalization/abandonment;
• Promote the child’s rights to have his own family and benefit from complex social services;
• Develop and implement programs that support family preservation, domestic adoption and parent education;
• Develop training and technical assistance programs, seminars, conferences, as well as other activities with a view to develop and strengthen the capacity of local authorities, non-governmental organizations and local communities to offer professional social services in child protection;
• Cooperate with Romanian and foreign bodies that develop social services for children and families and develop effective partnerships.

 At present Holt Romania – FCSSCF is developing its activity at high standards in its national office in Constanta, 2 regional branches: Iasi and Targu Mures, and 2 work offices in Medgidia and Sighisoara, with professionally trained staff.

 Holt programs develop under direct collaboration with central and local authorities, as well as with private bodies activating in child protection.
