After a long
period when a national meeting was not possible, we have
managed to accomplish this thing and we were all very
enthusiastic to better know one another and to benefit from
internal training sessions.

The meeting
of the whole team started on March 8, 2006, in the
afternoon, and the subjects approached were related to the
importance of the event, the stating of the expectations and
meeting each of the employees. Then, subjects related to
important legal aspects in social services were
interactively discussed, as well as accreditation,
significance of terms and specific expressions, and adapted
forms applied in all Holt sites.

Together we
analyzed specific problems of the sponsorship program,
developing projects, financial and accounting problems and
news in each site.
Games and
other entertaining activities were also developed, both
indoor and outdoor. The evening was dedicated to a festive
celebration of the International Women’s Day.

The second
day, March 9, was dedicated to the following subjects:
objectives, ways to approach and roles of counseling,
organizational SWOT analysis, emotional intelligence in
organizational development, motivation in general and staff
motivation in particular, appreciative methods in social
work, preparing parents for sex education of their
children.

During the
last day, March 10, discussions were mainly focused on
attracting funds from the local communities, a vital issue
for the financial sustainability of our organization in the
future. We worked in small groups in order to identify
viable solutions in this respect and in order to manage to
annul organizational myths regarding community fund raising;
we discussed the organizational “diamond”, the “bull’s eye”
and the profiles of the main donors.

The most
present subject was related to the 2% campaign to redirect
part of the income tax by the Romanian taxpayers. Together
we established the national strategy for this campaign and
the specific objectives. This action will end on May 15 and
we hope to be able to count on considerable funds attracted
in this way.

All
participants perceived this organizational retreat as a
special opportunity to professionally develop them in the
future, to approach subjects of great importance and concern
and to ensure continuity of the programs/projects developed
at the highest standards.
